Its connection with the James Bond movies started in 1997 with Tomorrow Never Dies and has continued in eight films, including No Time To Die (2021).

While supporting characters usually drink Heineken, James Bond himself was seen drinking it in Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015).

Heineken Beer History

In 1864, Gerard Adriaan Heineken, a businessman with big ideas, bought the De Hooiberg (The Haystack) brewery in Amsterdam.

This brewery had been making beer since 1592 and was popular with workers.

Heineken wanted to improve beer-making, so he hired Dr. Elion, a student of famous scientist Louis Pasteur, to create a special yeast for brewing.

This led to the launch of Heineken’s Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij (HBM) in 1873, where the first Heineken-branded beer was made.

In 1875, Heineken won a gold medal at the International Maritime Exposition in Paris, which helped it become popular in France.

By then, the company was selling over 64,000 hectolitres (1.7 million U.S. gallons) of beer, making it France’s top beer importer.

Over the years, Heineken won several awards, including honors at major exhibitions in Amsterdam (1883) and Paris (1889 and 1900).

Even today, some of these awards still appear on Heineken’s label as a reminder of its history.

Heineken’s green bottle, known as “Verdinha” in Brazil, is recognized worldwide.

However, Heineken only started using it everywhere in 2013, replacing the traditional brown bottles used in the Netherlands.

In the same year, Heineken also committed to promoting responsible drinking.

In 2014, Heineken celebrated 150 years in business, and in 2015, it won the Creative Marketer of the Year Award for the second time.

Today, beer lovers can visit the original brewery, which is now the Heineken Experience museum.

This museum tells the story of Heineken’s journey and how it became one of the world’s most famous beer brands.
